Miami Gardens, FL - The number two ranked Florida Gators defeated the number one ranked Oklahoma Sooners for the college football national championship.
The teams played a scoreless first quarter before Tim Tebow hit Lakewood high school's Louis Murphy for a 20-yard touchdown pass which gave Florida a 7-0 lead in the second.
The Sooners quickly answered on their next drive when Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford threw a 6-yard touchdown to Jermaine Gresham to tie the game at 7-7.
Two uncharacteristic interceptions by Tim Tebow plague the Gators the first half. And before the half is over, Sam Bradford throws an interception of his own to Major Wright.
Tied at 7 at the half, both teams are quiet to start the third quarter. The Gators are the first offensive spark with 4:21 to go, Tebow hands off to Percy Harvin for a 2 yard score and a 14-7 lead.
On the Sooners' next drive, Florida defense gets another huge play when it blocks Oklahoma's 49 yard field goal attempt by Jimmy Stevens.
Florida manages a field goal to take a 17-14 lead.
An interception of Bradford stops a driving OU team and sets up the Gators for another touchdown. The Gators lead 24-14.
The Gators stop the Sooners on a fourth down attempt and run out the clock to win the game.
The Gators were led by Tebow, last year's Heisman Trophy winner. Tebow notched 40 touchdowns this year, 28 through the air and 12 rushing on the ground.
Oklahoma had this year's Heisman winner, quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford passed for 48 touchdowns and rushed for 5.
Gator coach Urban Meyer won his second national championship.
This is the first time the two programs have met.
