Kaiserslautern, Germany (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC signed German
midfielder Christian Tiffert to a three-year deal Friday from Kaiserslautern,
according to the German club.
Tiffert, 30, made 64 Bundesliga appearances for Kaiserslautern and played 225
matches overall in Germany's top flight. He played for German squads Stuttgart
from 2000-06 and Duisburg from 2007-10.
He started his career with Tennis Borussia Berlin in 2000, and also spent time
in Austria with Red Bull Salzburg in 2006-07. He scored 13 Bundesliga goals in
his career.
Terms of the contract will be kept confidential, according to Kaiserslautern.
Seattle traded midfielder Alvaro Fernandez to the Chicago Fire on Friday for
allocation money, a move likely made to open a spot for Tiffert. Sounders FC
has not officially announced the deal.
