Despite a last-minute letter from a senior administrator
with the City of St. Petersburg, the ABC Coalition voted unanimously to
approve its initial draft of conclusions designed to keep the Rays in
Tampa Bay.
The Rays exercised their $10 million option for the 2010 season on left fielder Carl Crawford. Tampa Bay declined the 2010 options on left-handed relief pitcher Brian Shouse and catcher Gregg Zaun.
Hideki Matsui tied a World Series record with six RBIs, Andy Pettitte won on short rest and New York beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 on Wednesday night, finally seizing that elusive 27th title. It was the team's first since winning three straight from 1998-2000.
The Rays have announced new ticket prices for 2010. They say tickets for nearly 40% of Rays games will be at, or below, 2009 prices. Ticket prices will be separated into 5 different price categories, depending on the opponent and the day of the week.
Outfielder Gabe Kapler has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. The team announced a one-year deal on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Kapler played in 99 games this season, batting .239 with eight homers and 32 RBIs.
