Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins announced Monday that the club
has signed head coach Claude Julien to a multi-year contract extension.
Julien has spent the last five seasons behind the bench for Boston after being
named the 27th head coach in franchise history on June 21, 2007.
Last season Julien and the Bruins recorded their fifth consecutive season with
91-plus points (102) and their second straight season above 100 before being
ousted by the Washington Capitals in seven games in the first round of the
playoffs.
He led the Bruins to a 228-132-50 record overall and the franchise's first
Stanley Cup championship in 39 years in 2011 with a Game 7 victory over the
Vancouver Canucks.
Boston has never missed the playoffs with Julien behind the bench and his
36-27 career playoff record puts him first in all-time postseason wins among
Boston head coaches.
Before his time in Boston, Julien served as head coach for the Montreal
Canadiens (2002-06) and the New Jersey Devils (2006-07) and holds a 347-218-10
record over 648 regular-season games.
