Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers signed the first-overall
pick in June's draft, forward Nail Yakupov, to a three-year, entry-level deal
on Monday.
"We're very happy to sign Nail to a three-year contract. He's an extremely
talented and passionate young man who we feel will be an integral part of our
team for many years to come," noted Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound winger totaled 31 goals and 69 points in 42 games for
the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League last season.
At the end of the current contract, Yakupov will become a restricted free
agent.
