Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco 49ers have signed former
New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs to a one-year contract.
The move, reported last week, was officially announced Friday.
Jacobs, 29, played his first seven NFL seasons for the Giants, winning two
Super Bowls and scoring a franchise-record 56 rushing touchdowns.
In a statement, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said the team was "pleased
to add a player with Brandon's wealth of experience and talent."
"He has been productive throughout his career, and provides our offense a
different dimension," said Baalke. "We look forward to incorporating Brandon
into our system."
Jacobs carried the ball 152 times for 571 yards and seven touchdowns this past
season, which ended in a Super Bowl title.
He has rushed for 4,849 yards in his career and 461 yards and four touchdowns
in 11 postseason games, including five starts.
