New York, NY (Sports Network) - Fordham University's football program will not
be eligible for the Patriot League title again until 2014.
The Patriot League Council of Presidents made the decision at its meetings
earlier this week.
Fordham has been ineligible for the Patriot title and its NCAA automatic
qualification spot for the FCS playoffs since the fall of 2010, when it started
to offer athletic football scholarships against league policy.
The league has since voted to add scholarships beginning in the fall of 2013.
Fordham's games against Patriot members will not count toward the final league
standings for each of the next two seasons.
The Council of Presidents also set the maximum team roster sizes for preseason
camp and the regular season at 95 student-athletes in 2013, 92 for 2014 and
2015, and 90 beginning in 2016.
