New York, NY (Sports Network) - Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan
Zimmerman was named the National League Player of the Week for the period
ending July 22.
Zimmerman led the majors with 15 hits and 32 total bases over eight games to
earn his third career weekly award. He added five home runs, eight RBI and
nine runs scored, including the game-winner on a wild pitch in Tuesday's 10-
inning victory over the Mets.
On Sunday, Zimmerman belted two home runs and drove in three during a 9-2 win
over the Atlanta Braves.
Other players considered for the award included Arizona's Jason Kubel and
Aaron Hill, Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez and David Freese of the St. Louis
Cardinals.
