  • A Florida airboat captain lost his hand after an alligator bit it off Tuesday.

Authorities say the man was leading a tour in the Everglades when the attack happened.

The captain was able to drive himself back to the dock for help.
Wildlife officials caught the alligator, retrieved the hand from its stomach and brought it to the hospital.

Doctors are working to reattach it.

The captain is expected to recover.

    The alligator was euthanized.
