James Bain holds his newborn son James Jr. Bain was freed from prison in 2009, after serving 35 years for a crime he didn't commit.
Hillsborough County, Florida - James Bain kisses the head of his month-old baby. It's a moment he never even let himself dream of. He's in a beautiful home, with a wife, a 5-year-old stepdaughter and cradling a newborn son.
"I thought I'd never, ever see this point in my life, where I have my own child," he says in a quiet voice.
Of course, you'd expect any new dad to dote, but for Bain, this new chapter in his life is truly miraculous. "It's a gift from God," he says.
You see, it was just a little over two years ago that Bain was released from prison. He'd spent 35 years behind bars; wrongly accused of kidnapping and rape. He spent 35 years hoping someone would take his case and 35 years just trying to stay alive.

"A certain bump, a certain look, or maybe they just don't like you... it's very easy to get killed there," Bain says, referring to prison.
After his release, James married Mallelin. A native of Cuba, she speaks mostly Spanish, but James says there were sparks from the start. "We was locked in by sight and it's been that way ever since," Bain says with a wide grin.
Just like the mobile on his son's bassinet -- how life turns. Bain's focus now is on the future. His heart is filled not with bitterness, but with love; love for God, family and now this baby that bears his name: James Junior Bain.
