Tampa, Florida-- Two sisters were shot to death inside separate rooms of their North Tampa home, according to the Tampa Police Department.
At this point, police aren't sure if the sisters were victims of a homicide or involved in a murder-suicide at 808 E. Lotus Avenue, near the intersection of Nebraska Ave. and Linebaugh Ave.
Tampa Police received a call around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday from a friend who had arrived at the house to check on the sisters after being unable to contact them.
Investigators are also still trying to determine how recently the sisters died. One neighbor said she saw one of the sisters outside of her house on Wednesday.
Hillsborough County appraisal records list the owner of the home as 62-year-old Linda Helms. Police are not releasing the identities of the sisters until next of kin can be reached, but the department has confirmed that the sisters were 54 and 62 years old.
A small crowd of people who live in the neighborhood watched anxiously behind crime scene tape as investigators shuffled in and out of the house in search of evidence.
Several of the neighbors expressed concern about the incident, and said they want to start a neighborhood watch group.
