ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Chicken tenders, waffle fries ... and locked lips?
Chick-fil-A customers across the county got more than they bargained for Friday night as same sex couples made out, kissing in the parking lot or in even some cases - inside.
"We're here to stand up for equal right for everybody and to send a message of love," said Same Sex Kiss participant Roger Prewitt.
The nationwide counter protest is in response to comments made by Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy and his large donations towards organizations that promote conservative values.
"We don't want it to be a hateful day," said Tom Ziri. "He's obviously portraying hate and that's not what we want to portray."
Jamie Bishop agreed. "I mean they do have delicious food but I'm not going to let really delicious food lower my morals and my standards," said Bishop.
At this St. Pete location on 4th Street North, many say all the kissing wasn't a big deal.
"We turned around to see what was with all the commotion. That's when we noticed," said Min Lee, a Chick-fil-A customer.
Others say, same sex or not, get a room!
"That's ridiculous, every single one of them," said Laura Concepcion, who identified herself as an Athiest who supports Chick-fil-A.
Some kids even got an eye full from inside the restaurant suggesting the kissers take their affection behind closed doors.
"Not in public, they can keep it to themselves. Save that for their house," said two local kids.
Participants puckered up for pictures to be posted on Facebook. While the owners of the St. Pete Chick-Fil-A didn't want to speak on camera, one local manager told me his business is about poultry - not politics - and that he'll serve customers no matter who they are.
"We live in the US and do what you want to do and say what you want to say," said Crystal Nguyn. "As long as you're happy with your life that's all that matters."
Chick-fil-A issued this statement late Friday:
"At Chick-fil-A, we appreciate all of our customers and are glad to serve them at any time. Our goal is simple: to provide great food, genuine hospitality and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A."
