Alachua County, Florida - Students at Plant High School in Tampa are mourning the loss of one of their own. Friday evening, senior Allyson Faulk was killed in a car crash outside of Gainesville.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Faulk was driving north on I-75 when she lost control of her SUV before hitting several trees in the median before the SUV burst into flames. She died at the scene.
Passenger Kristen Hurst received serious injuries in the crash. Passengers Elizabeth Mischo and Karlyn McKell received minor injuries. School officials say all three passengers are seniors.
Assistant Principal Gina Piloto describes Allyson as a well-rounded student, a role model who participated in basketball and the yearbook staff.
Crisis and grief counselors will be on hand Monday to talk with students and staff.
