Largo, Florida --  Pinellas County students are barely into the start of their summer break and yet, what they'll be wearing during the next school year is up for debate.

The Pinellas County School Board debated the issue Tuesday morning, but decided to move the issue to a workshop at the end of the month.

Nine schools are requesting to implement school uniform policies. The schools say a uniform will help unify their students and teach them to "dress for success."

Among the schools asking for the change are Azalea Middle School, Dunedin Elementary School, Dunedin Highland Middle School, John Hopkins Middle School, Largo Middle School, Lynch Middle School, Palm Harbor Middle School, Skycrest Elementary School, and Tyrone Middle School.

If the schools move forward, they'll be joining a growing number of schools that are implementing uniform policies.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 18.9% of principals said their schools require school uniforms.  The latest stats are from 2009-2010.

Several parents are speaking out against the policy, claiming it will not reduce bullying or improve grades.

A survey of parents seems to indicate most do support the idea of uniforms.

The workshop is slated for June 26th.  It will also be discussed Monday during a meeting of area superintendents.

Here are the stats of support from each school:

Azalea Middle School:  97% staff/68% parents

Dunedin Elementary School:  93% staff/66% parents

Dunedin Highland Middle School:  99% staff/62% parents

John Hopkins Middle School:  99% staff/65% parents

Largo Middle School:  92% staff/74% parents

Lynch Middle School:  94% staff/64% parents

Palm Harbor Middle School:  94% staff/55% parents

Skycrest Elementary School:  90% staff/70% parents

Tyrone Middle School:  94% staff/61% parents
