NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A 14-month-old boy is in the hospital after authorities say he nearly drowned.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, 39-year-old Kevin Geddes was playing with the child near a canal behind his house when they both fell into the water.

Deputies say Geddes appeared to be very inebriated and was swinging the boy in the yard near the canal before they fell in. Geddes allegedly refused help from witnesses, even though the child appeared to be drowning.

A witness jumped into the water and saved the child. The 14-month-old received CPR at the scene and was bayflighted to All Children's Hospital. He is expected to recover.
