HOUSTON, TX -- Former Jesuit right-handed pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. made it official on Monday passing on his scholarship at the University of Florida to sign with the Houston Astros earning a 2.5 million dollar bonus.
The assigned value of McCullers' No. 41 selection was just over 1.2 million dollars, but the Astros saved on signing their No. 1 overall pick Carlos Correa for 4.8 million.
McCullers was in Houston Monday with the Astro's and got to suit up in a uniform and throw in the Bull Pen with the team before their game against Kansas City. He said his commitment to the University of Florida was a very strong one but this was an opportunity he just couldn't pass up.
