Longboat Key, Florida -- On the day his body arrived back home from North Carolina, a public memorial service has been planned for Longboat Police Chief Al Hogle.
Hogle, 63, died Monday in a motorcycle accident in North Carolina.
A public memorial service has been scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at 1 p.m.
It will take place at Robards Arena, 3000 Ringling Boulevard in Sarasota.
The memorial will be followed by interment at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72. A large number of people are expected to attend the services and carpooling is encouraged, especially at the cemetery.
Hogle spent much of his life in public service. Besides serving as Longboat Key's police chief since 2002, Hogle was also police chief in Bradenton and Sarasota's mayor.
