WESTLAKE, Ohio (WKYC) -- The Panini's in Westlake was the scene of a literary bonfire Wednesday night.

The hosts of the Alan Cox Show on 100.7 WMMS staged a book burning, collecting copies of "50 Shades of Grey" and setting them on fire.

The adult novel falls under the category of erotic literature, and is the talk of pop culture this year. The "50 Shades of Grey" series has sold over 31 million copies worldwide. 

Some women say it ignites the passion in the bedroom, while some men says their wives are too busy reading the books to pay them any attention.

After debating it on the radio, Alan Cox got a lot of calls and emails from listeners.  He decided a tongue-in-cheek book burning of "50 Shades of Grey" would be a fitting way for men (and even a few women) to express their dissatisfaction.

A dozen or so people came out to the restaurant with their copies and offered them up to the barbecue pit.  One person even threw in a Nook e-reader.

As the paperbacks dissolved to ashes, one woman -- a fan of the novels -- rushed forward with a fire extinguisher, in hopes of saving the book from the flames.
