(WXIA) -- According to WebMD, at least five people have caught fire after using Banana Boat spray sunscreen products, prompting a recall.
The voluntary recall from Banana Boat's parent company Energizer Holdings, says there is a potential risk of the "product igniting on the skin if contact is made with a source of ignition before the product is completely dry."
All of the products are part of Banana Boat's UltraMist line, and the 23 items being recalled includes two products that are marketed for children.
Energizer says they believe the issue is associated with the size of the spray valve opening on the products. They said more of the products is dispensed than ordinarily happens with other sunscreens on the market, which can lead to the product taking longer to dry.
If a consumer comes into contact with an open flame or a spark before the sunscreen dries on the skin, Energizer said in a statement, a potential exists for the product to ignite.
Consumers who have purchased the products are advised not to use them. Anyone with questions or concerns is advised to contact Energizer at 1-800-723-3786 Monday through Friday from 8 am to 7 pm Eastern, or emailing them directly at suncare@customerfollowup.info.
