ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- St. Petersburg police are investigating an accidental drowning at a motel on 34th Street North.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, a birthday party was taking place at the Mosley Motel when 5-year-old Jadan Justice was found lying at the bottom of the motel pool. Police say he was playing with several other children near the shallow end of the pool under the supervision of a 13-year-old sibling, but apparently slipped down to the deep end undetected.
Authorities say Shawn Collins, a motel resident, spotted the child at the bottom of the pool and dove in. He pulled Jadan from the water and nearby witnesses performed CPR until St. Petersburg Fire Rescue arrived, but attempts to resuscitate the boy were unsuccessful.
Jadan was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the child was living at the motel with his parents. No charges have been filed at this time.
