Venice, Florida -- Police say one person is dead after a plane crashed at the Venice Municipal Airport Monday afternoon.
The FAA reports the twin-engine aircraft had engine problems shortly after takeoff just after 2 p.m. It then crashed short of the runway as it attempted to return to the airport, where it burst into flames.

The Aero Commander 560-F -- which is registered to a corporation out of Wilmington, Delaware -- was headed to Lafayette, Georgia when it went down.
Only one person is believed to have been on board the plane. Three is no word on the victim's identity at this time.
