What is Real Men Wear Gowns?
10 News and Tampa Bay Radiation Oncology have partnered to help raise awareness for Prostate Cancer, emphasizing the importance of testing regularly for the disease. Our goal is to help encourage men in the Tampa Bay area to take action and get tested.
Who Should Be Screened?
Approximately 28,000 men die of prostate cancer annually. The American Cancer Society recommends testing starting at age 50 for average risk men. Of the 1.6 Million men in Tampa Bay, 48% are over the age of 50.
However, men who are considered high-risk should begin screening at age 45. Those at high risk include African-Americans and men with a first-degree relative (father, brother, son), diagnosed at an early age (younger than age 65).
